Sensitive guy Josh Pyke is back on the road, starting his Fans First tour with an intimate show at GoodGod Small Club on Thurday 23rd. After a year off, Pyke is giving his fans a chance to catch some new material in a small setting. Also on Thursday, despite seeming to be on the verge of closure, the legendary Annandale Hotel on Parramatta Road is still celebrating its 11th birthday, with Tim Rogers and the very talented Leena lending their services for the week of gigs. Rising stars Papa Vs Pretty do their bit for the pub the following night with Slackjaw, Speekeasy and Delerious in support, among others. On Friday 24th The Grates will be welcomed back to the country at Oxford Art Factory before heading up north to play their Splendour In The Grass spot, new album in tow. Their Sydney show is sure to be packed so get in quick! Those interested in the raunchier side of live entertainment can find it at the Enmore Theatre in Newtown on Saturday 25th, where the annual Miss Burlesque Australia pagent will take place – sure to be wild! Also on Saturday, the fabulous Red Rattler in Marrickville is hosting Tom Loud’s Video Dance-A-Rama which will feature a running man dance contest amongst other wonderfully kitsch goings-on. Sunday 26th sees a great local gig take place at the Town Hall Hotel (The Townie) in Newtown, with Captain Obvious and the Unpredictables strutting their stuff for the free entry night. Gossling are launching a new single, War, on Wednesday 29th at GoodGod Small Club on Liverpool St in Sydney’s CBD – quality folk pop for all to enjoy. Oxford Art Factory has 3Things Hip Hop Approach, an Oxfam-run initiative to bring awareness and discussion about important global issues, with Ozi Batla, Dialectrix and Tuka heading up the extensive line up. Thursday 30th is the day. Friday 1st and the unbeatable 505 in Surry Hills is hosting one of the more out there and fantastic underground gigs of the Winter. It sees self-professed Aviational Jazz Hop inventors The Conscious Pilots bringing their signature acoustic take on hip hop to team up with the enigmatic Ninja The Bungee, who recently surprised punters with a packed set at Katoomba’s Winter Magic festival. A winner for sure. Those up for some top shelf electronic music later on can catch 16BIT at Oxford Art Factory, who have made the trip from their home in the U.K. to bring their highly sought-after production skills to our shores. Friday night continues to give up the goods, with the much-hyped Dereb The Ambassador launching his debut album (despite having released it some time ago) at GoodGod – sure to be packed. Saturday 2nd finds FBi’s Sydney Sounds Like – Choose Your Own Adventure taking place at The Factory Theatre in Marrickville, with Faker and Deep Sea Arcade heading up the generous bill. Sunday 3rd the Annandale is hosting Blood Sweat & Beers, with Snowdroppers, Area 7 and Anchors heading up the bill of quality rock and roll.
