LIVE WIRE – Sydney Live Music Guide February 2nd

This Thursday February 2nd indie rock group Girls will be hitting our shores as part of the Laneway Festival, but in case you’re not going along to that, their sideshow at the Oxford Arts Factory will be a great opportunity to catch the coveted band. Their debut album creatively titled Album has received rave reviews and they cemented their live credentials on the Late Night Jimmy Fallon show with a blistering performance of their single Honey Bunny. Live at the Basement there’ll be an insane night of rock & roll blues to behold. Chase The Sun are launching their new single The Pants and to help them do so they’ve enlisted Ray Beadle and Claude Hay as support acts. If you’ve seen any of these acts before in the flesh you’d know that each act is unrelenting in their live performances and this is gonna be a wild night. UK post-punk-new wave rock poster-boys The Horrors are also here for Laneway Festival and they’ll be playing their sideshow at the Metro Theatre. Their third album Skyling is a natural progression of their melodic pop sound and it’ll be a great opportunity to see why these guys are NME magazine darlings.

On Friday February 3rd at Notes Live some of Australia’s finest musicians are coming together to play a tribute to the great Bob Dylan. Featuring members from groups such as The Angels, Cruel Sea and more you can hear a whole host of classic tunes from Bob’s back catalogue. Across town Beach Rd Hotel is hosting a Frequency Lab showcase which will feature a whole host of futuristic beat junkies from the forward thinking label. Playing live will be Elliot, Roleo and Limetipe while there will be DJ sets from Huw and Monkfly. At 505 you can catch an interesting act in My Sauce Tasty. The guitar, vocal and violin trio have got an upbeat swing-jazz sound with saucy vocals, by Argentinian singer Laura Brozky, sung in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese.

Then on Saturday February 4th one time KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick will be revisiting some of the music that took the world by storm during the 70s and 80s. Specifically, he’ll be playing music from the era between 1985 and 1997 when he was a member of the shock rock group. That’s happening over at the Factory Theatre with support from Six Hours.

Finally on Sunday February 5th singer-songwriter and ex Bluebottle Kiss frontman Jamie Hutchings will be will be playing at the Annandale Hotel. He wrote six albums along with a whole host of EPs with his old group and has released three solo albums so he’s got a huge range of material to draw upon for his shows. The long list of supports includes Edward Deer, Charlie Horse and Melbourne’s Wilding.
