U.S. R&B a capella group Naturally 7 can be found on Friday 29th at the majestic State Theatre as they tour their album, VocalPlay – think Take 6 + 1. Also on Friday, Louisiana blues legend Tony Joe White is in the country for Byron Bay Blues Fest and can be found at The Basement in Circular Quay for his Sydney side show – a great opportunity to catch a true legend in an intimate setting. Veritable hipsters and Triple J faves Tim & Jean are playing Oxford Art Factory on Saturday 30th, a good chance to catch this young Perth duo on their way up. Also on Saturday, the only two Bone Thugz allowed in the country, Krayzie Bone and Wish Bone are back after a recent tour, this time they can be found at the very strangely chosen Club Marconi in Bossley Park. Wednesday 4th finds U.K. collective The Go! Team playing The Metro in the CBD, where they will play a selection from their third album Rolling Blackouts – upbeat party fun times guaranteed. Also on Wednesday, Ethiopian singer Dereb The Ambassador is starting a May residency at The Mac on Wentworth Avenue, a very special treat for Sydneysiders as this man is gaining increasing popularity and interest here and overseas. Norwegian electro rockers Datarock are back in town, this time playing at Oxford Art Factory on Thursday 5th. A rare chance to catch this hilarious and imaginative band in a smaller setting, having played the likes of Cochella Festival elsewhere in the world. Thursday also sees local Sydney troubador Edoardo Santoni launching his debut E.P. at The Basement in Circular Quay to much anticipation. ARIA and Triple J heroine Megan Washington is touring with her eponymous band in May, with Sydney folks scoring a Metro show on Friday 6th. Indie geniuses Deep Sea Arcade are in tow for the tour dates before they launch off on their U.K. tour, making for a very special line up for Aussie music fans in general. Also on Friday, U.S. hip hop duo and arguably one hit wonders House of Pain are playing the Manning Bar at University of Sydney. The crowd is sure to be rough and ready but the 90s nostalgia will be worth it. Chicago DJ James Curd is leading this week’s Adult Disco at the Civic Underground in the city – another in a long line of classy, Future Classic nights, providing the hippest new left of field electronic line ups. Saturday 7th is the day.
