LIVE WIRE – Sydney Live Music Guide April 21st

Thursday 21st finds local session heavyweight, pianist Danny Goodacre launching his debut album at The Basement in Circular Quay, where he will be supported by an all-star Sydney line up playing soulful funk and latin grooves – not to be missed. Also on Thursday, New Zealand psychadelic rock quartet Little Bushman are playing at The Gaelic Club in Surry Hills – led by former Trinity Roots front man Warren Maxwell, these guys are one of the most underrated bands to cross the ditch of late. Local gal Lanie Lane is also playing on Thursday, this time at the über-hip and über-small GOODGOD SmallClub on Liverpool St in the CBD – definitely one to check out. Saturday 23rd is the night of the second annual Inner West Festival at the entirely apt Sandringham Hotel in Newtown. There the Sando plays host to The Hard Ons, Sketch the Rhyme, Reverse Polarities, Zeahorse, Tuka and True Vibe Nation amongst many others – what fun! Also on Saturday, Burmingham DJ Mark E heads the next Adult Disco night at Civic Underground in the city, run by the sometimes painfully cool Future Classic label. Aussie rock faves Grinspoon are playing at Waves Nightclub down south on Sunday 24th, as part of their short Six to Midnight tour throughout NSW over the Easter long weekend. Back at the Gaelic Club, Sunday also finds We Had Parties! – Rumble in the Jungle, the fifth annual night of its kind, with P*A*S*H, Teen Spirit, Ghetto Blaster and F.R.I.E.N.D/s heading the night of novel names and obnoxious beats. Still on Sunday, Los Angeles based Aggrolites bring their handsome dub reggae sounds to The Gaelic Club as part of their inaugural Australian tour – good vibes on a Monday night. Nashville native Caitlin Rose is at Ravál on Tuesday 26th, a great chance to enjoy this intimate venue despite its official closure for regular gigs. Thursday 28th finds cheeky Newtown electro pop duo Snout Cassette launching their latest E.P., with The Bluish Foundation, Pom Pom and Mathematical Equation of Sound in support. U.S. R&B a capella group Naturally 7 can be found on Friday 29th at the majestic State Theatre as they tour their album, VocalPlay – think Take 6 + 1. Also on Friday, Louisiana blues legend Tony Joe White is in the country for Byron Bay Blues Fest and can be found at The Basement in Circular Quay for his Sydney side show – a great opportunity to catch a true legend in an intimate setting. Veritable hipsters and Triple J faves Tim & Jean are playing Oxford Art Factory on Saturday 30th, a good chance to catch this young Perth duo on their way up. Also on Saturday, the only two Bone Thugz allowed in the country, Krayzie Bone and Wish Bone are back after a recent tour, this time they can be found at the very strangely chosen Club Marconi in Bossley Park.
