Blue Mountains blues and roots outfit The Widow Birds are playing the very suave Raval on Thursday the 3rd, with locals Cats Are Black in support. A few doors down, local six-piece live hip hop band The Dyno Mics launch their Look Good single at Tone, with supports by Musicoz winner Jack Carty and DJ Gabriel Clouston. Champion venue of the local jazz scene, 505, has the impeccable sounds of The Vampires on the 3rd, with their soulful jazz and reggae promising to blend nicely with the outstanding Mexican-inspired menu at this intimate spot on Cleveland St. Long-standing Kiwi rockers Shihad are back for an Australian tour, including Waves Nightclub in Towradgi on Thursday 3rd and Bondi’s Beach Rd Hotel on Saturday 5th. Local reggae crew King Tide can be found simmering down at the Brass Monkey on Friday 4th, and Sydney Festival continues to offer international gems with Dublin troubadour Conor O’Brien (aka Villagers) playing The Famous Spiegeltent that same night. Saturday 5th sees eight-piece Afrocolombian party-starters Watussi launch their latest single and video clip with an official party and performance at Camelot in Marrickville, with Killaqueenz’ DJ K-Note in support. Civic Underground’s Adult Disco nights are back in full swing, with Triple J Hottest 100 high-scorers Flight Facilities playing with The Swiss for this Friday’s line-up. Also on the 5th, Sydney hip hop act Spit Syndicate feature for SOSUEME at Oxford Arts Factory with special guests. Sunday 6th sees this year’s St Jerome’s Laneway Festival visit Sydney once again, with highlights including !!! (Chk Chk Chk), Two Door Cinema Club, Foals, Yeasayer, and Deerhunter to name but a few. Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, also on the bill, have added a sideshow for those who missed out on Laneway tickets on Wednesday 9th at Manning Bar, University of Sydney. Still at the Manning Bar, Rhode Island rockers Les Savvy Fav are in the country touring their new album, Root For Ruin, and promise a thumping live show. Sydney’s finest indie act Deep Sea Arcade are releasing some long-awaited new material on their double bill tour with New Zealand surf-indie comrades Surf City. Friday 11th finds them at Oxford Art Factory, followed by Mona Vale Hotel on Saturday 12th – must-see performances by two bands to keep a close eye on in the near future. Saturday 12th has this year’s Good Vibrations Festival take place once more at Centennial Park, with possibly the most critically acclaimed line-up to date; acts include Faithless, Nas and Damien Marley, Erykah Badu, Kelis, Miike Snow, Phoenix, Yolanda Be Cool and Ludacris. Bondi Beach has plenty to offer on Sunday 13th, with the annual South American Festival taking place at Bondi Pavillion, and the Sunday Nice Up featuring funky Brisbane seven-piece Cheap Fakes at the Beach Road Hotel.
