Good old days

At times one wonders just what Council has in mind for the Potts Point, Kings Cross and Darlinghurst areas.

We are told the use of lanes is to be encouraged, yet those using and endeavouring to bring life, e.g. to Llankelly Place, are hindered by the Council ¬– just as the hotel in Springfield Avenue, where there was a delightful outdoor area, was forced to remove the structure and replace it with temporary fixtures – obviously memories were short and the fact the area before the hotel development was used for drugs and prostitution, which moved away with the advent of the outdoor hotel facilities, was overlooked.

Similarly Llankelly Place is being civilized – a year ago I was walking there at 9am in the morning to drop off some laundry and was asked if I wanted some “coke” – now it is being tidied up and will become a user friendly area if the business people there are able to use it and develop their businesses – I recall the days many, many years ago when the Four Canoes Restaurant (I think it was called) was on the site of the new Harris development – a great area – Joan Sutherland was there for the opening and the chef created a special dessert for the event!

Those who complain, such as the so-called Darlinghurst Resident Action Group, should accept the fact that this area is not similar to the bible-belt suburbs of the North Shore – this area always has been different and people living here know there is going to be life and some noise – it is one of the reasons most of us live here.

And with proper development and policing the area will come back to the good old days again!

Trevor Haines, Potts Point

Save our village

We write in support of the action group against the “reconstruction” of Rushcutters Bay Park. The tennis court cafe is a perfect neighbourhood cafe, it well serves the locals.

Rory, the proprietor deserves to stay.

The park itself does not need to be interfered with by non-resident councillors. Leave OUR village green alone.

Save our park

I have used Rushcutters Bay Park every morning for the past 8 years walking my dog. Please return the Park back to us without the concrete freeway style paths, leave the kiosk and lovely garden. I have always been a Clover Moore supporter but she is no longer in touch with an urban inner-city community.
