Michael Gormly asks for one valid reason why people who like to enjoy a restful night’s sleep should continue to live in Potts Point (aka Kings Cross) instead of Pymble. The most obvious reason is so as to walk to work, thus reducing one’s personal environmental footprint. Potts Point was and remains Sydney’s first and most densely populated dormitory suburb to the CBD. It is where many workers in the city, local schools, hospitals, clinics and small businesses live so as to easily access their workplaces and strengthen their community networks through both work and leisure.

What a welcome message was contained in Michael Gormly’s article “My quiet street” in March 18 edition. We live in Kings Cross, Potts Point, Woolloomooloo areas because of the areas’ vibrance and the fact these are not “normal” areas but have some life and associated noise and bad behaviour – we do not live in St Ives or Pymble – those that do come to our suburb for some excitement and to see a little of the alternative life-style!

We could have better policing but please do not turn us into a normal suburb – where would we move to if that occurred?

Trevor Haines, Potts Point
