Misplaced apostrophes

I just wanted to point out that the apostrophe in the quoted ‘Graffiti of the Week’ which was purported to be written by a British backpacker (because the apostrophes were correct!) is in fact misplaced.
The apostrophe should be here: O is for “Other People’s Lives” notO is for “Other Peoples’ Lives”.
Misplaced apostrophes are a particular pet peeve of mine! If the word is plural and ends in an ‘s’, then the apostrophe should come after the ‘s’. However, for words like ‘people’, ‘women’ or ‘children’, which are made plural without the use of an ‘s’, then the apostrophe should come before the ‘s’.

Locals angry over skaters

Councillor Harris must be oblivious to the numerous quotes by the skateboard fraternity when he claims “They’re just kids you know? Having a good time.” No Councillor, from what I have observed they are inconsiderate vandals destroying public property having little regard for other people’s safety in the pursuit of their “sport”. Councillor Harris must be very naive indeed if he thinks that building a dedicated skate park under the Western Distributor in Millers Point will confine the “kids” activities to the new park. May I suggest Council would better serve the Millers Point ratepayers by building a badly-needed children’s playground in the proposed area and build a fabulous new skate park in the wide open and under-utilised plaza situated adjacent to the Town Hall and St Andrews church. Councillor Harris would then be able to enjoy the antics of the skate boarders while he eats his lunch and can listen to the “chatter of the boards” on the Town Hall steps while he attends to council business. Clearly Councillor Irene Doutney is listening to the constituents even if Councillor Harris is yet to sense the anger of the local residents.

Councillors, speak up!

It’s about time that fellow Councillors and the general public began to stand up to the arrogance and dictorial style of Lord Mayor Clover Moore. Is this a Council of “Councillors” or is this a Council of “Lord Mayor Clover Moore with Councillors in toe”. Speak up guys before you find yourselves out in the street and looking for a job. There are so many issues that residents of Sydney are concerned about and want to raise with Council, but what for, they will only get shouted down by the Lord Mayor. It’s up to you Councillors. Help us out here. Speak UP!
