Letter to the editor: Pet dislikes

Andrew Woodhouse’s pet list of dislikes includes Clover Moore, drug users, bike lanes and now open-air urinals (“Open-air urinals to provide much needed relief”, CityNews 13 April 2011). He’s not yet mentioned my buttocks, to which, as of last month, I owe the charge of Offensive Conduct.

Surely it’s time to take a mature aproach to the human body and realise that urination, along with nudity, is nothing to feel ashamed about. As long as people responsibly urinate in parks, and in and around garden beds and trees, why should it be an offense? It’s great to have open-air urinals, but please, only impose fines where people are urinating in front of homes and commercial premises.

Only then, as President of the Kings Cross and Potts Point Heritage Society, could Woodhouse claim Kings Cross has become the “toilet bowl of Sydney”.
