Injecting hope?

Dear City News,

I note your front page of the 28th Oct edition quotes the MSIC’s director, Dr Marianne Chauncy saying the service is meeting its goals in saving lives.

I suggest that City News read the latest evaluation report authorised by Health NSW and completed by the well respected accounting firm KPMG.

The report shows the proportion of overdose deaths in Kings Cross has stayed at 12 per cent of the state average over the last 10 years of the trial period being 239 overdose deaths out of a NSW total of 2038 deaths (Pages 18 & 19).

This means that the MSIC has not and is not making any difference in saving the lives of drug addicts in Kings Cross.

It is a great pity a study has not been done on how many addicts the MSIC has rehabilitated.

Good Luck,

Paul Haege

Kings Cross
