Letter to the editor: Cold-turkey

Since Andrew Woodhouse mentions sleaze, he shouldn’t overlook the convicts shipped out from England, circa 1788, among them pimps, prostitutes and rum smugglers (“Inject sanity, not drugs”, May 5 2011).

Does Woodhouse, the cane-master, purport to cure drug-addicts through a multi-disciplinary approach that includes cold-turkey? And just as Mr Chew is  left masticating, would thousands of normal, healthy adults be left masturbating if Woodhouse banned their pilgrimage to Kings Cross?

One thing can be sure. DAs inviting public comments and Heritage Impact Statements will do little to restore drug users to healthy, productive lives. Only the implementation of the Wood Royal Commission report, recommending the legalisation of heroin and other drugs, will see the end of vice.
