Letter to the editor: ‘Clover has passed her used-by date’

Letter to the editor: ‘Clover has passed her used-by date’

Clover Moore’s desire to correct claims in my letter are unnecessary (Letters, City News, March 12).

There is nothing to correct.

I said clearly “her planning policies have approved 250 DAs for pubs and clubs”, a claim correctly made by her colleague Clr John McInerney.

I never said she approves licquor licences, a false claim.

In fact, without a council-approved site and hours for these premises any state government licquor licence is pointless.  Pub hours are governed by council’s conditions of consent and then stamped by the state government, a point reinforced by the Land and Environment Court last week in refusing the Rouge Down Under nightclub council DA for more hours.

So in the event of any discrepancy hours between council and government, hours common to both consents apply. Council is, in effect, the prime authority over sites and hours.

If a member of the public has to point out this bleedin’ obvious ping-pong planning process to a Lord Mayor, is it any wonder people are questioning whether, after 21 years, Clover has passed her used-by date.
