City council is awash with funds and can’t wait to lavish it on projects few want, but are unwilling to spend money to do the right thing by residents. The council has just spent $78M on adding another building to its $830M portfolio of investments and is determined to spend another $20M on an apparently unnecessary and unwanted renovation of Fitzroy Gardens. Meanwhile in Rosebery, the council is bloody-mindedly pushing ahead with its plan to put a garbage truck depot next to people’s homes. Locals have told council we are willing to accept most of the depot functions bar the heavy vehicles; the garbage trucks and street-sweepers that operate in the unsociable hours of the night. To solve the problem council merely has to fork out some of its spare cash on a site to house its truck fleet away from homes, in a fully industrial area.
