City of Sydney Councillor Shayne Mallard says he seeks to improve our society and that he’s pleased to be involved with issues concerning the gay community (“Mallard celebrates ten years”, City News, July 8). As an openly gay politician, what are his views on Sydney’s nude beaches, especially as they are popular with gay people? Many nude beaches are under threat, with a number of conservative councillors joining forces to lobby the state government to ban them. As a liberal councillor, would Cr Mallard support or oppose any plans by Barry O’Farrell to get rid of the beaches should he become Premier?
