The first sentence in your front page story ‘Council split over new Deputy’ (September 16, 2010) is inaccurate.

At no time have I said I want Clover Moore to step down from her position on the Barangaroo Delivery Authority board. Whilst many others have made statements to this end, I have not done so.

I consider that the Lord Mayor is currently serving an important role on the board of the Authority. Clover Moore has publicly stated that when she feels she is no longer contributing as a champion of the City she will resign from this board. I believe her.

Cr Marcelle Hoff
Deputy Lord Mayor, City of Sydney

I am pleased to see Cr Hoff back as Deputy Lord Mayor, particularly in her role in “scaling down Barangaroo”. Barangaroo should be a development that addresses the needs of all Sydney residents, and not one which satisfies the greed of a few individuals. Cr Hoff’s concern for residents was clearly evidenced to me when along with Crs Doutney, Burgmann and Harris, she supported the Forest Lodge and Camperdown community in the Orphan School Creek protest. With their help, while we did not achieve everything we wanted, at least the substantial native plantings we were initially promised, were restored.
