LAST DANCE

LAST DANCE

Radical Palestinian Sadiq (Underbelly’s Firass Dirani) is a wanted fugitive after his involvement in a terrorist attack on a local Melbourne synagogue. Neighbourly Holocaust survivor Mrs Lippmann (Julia Blake, Innocence) is the ill-fated scapegoat targeted when the injured Sadiq holds her captive to hideout in her home.

Founded on preconceived prejudices, the relationship is immediately hostile as both are forced to confront their pasts and startling exposés surface. The plotting soon becomes rather unbelievable, however most viewers will probably look past this in favour of the overarching story.

With the sinister dialogue, Dirani’s penetrating intensity and Blake’s composed performance, David Pulbrook’s first feature is a poignant tale of antiquity, faith, redemption and hope that, perhaps controversially, somewhat humanises terrorism. (GH)
