KYLIE AULDIST

Known more popularly as the front woman for Melbourne live sensation The Bamboos, Kylie Auldist has a new solo album titled Still Life. When we spoke, she could hardly contain her enthusiasm at being able to show a different musical side.

“Lance (Ferguson, of the Bamboos) and I have always done a lot of the hardcore soul, but now we’re broaching out a little bit with the disco, The Jackson 5 and more of the stuff we grew up to.”

Auldist admits she’s a disco tragic, embarrassing her children with her musical tastes: “I grew up with Donna Summer, Chic and Nile Rogers. I would love to have been the age that I could’ve gone to Studio 54,” she concedes jokingly.

The day before we spoke, The Bamboos received three ARIA nominations, one of which was for Best Live Performance. It’s an acknowledgement that Auldist is proud of, yet assures us that her upcoming solo show will be a unique experience at the same time.

“The Bamboos is pretty much a non-stop dance show, but the solo stuff is a bit more storytelling from me, weaving together material from all my albums. I’m also looking forward to going out and having a drink with everyone afterwards so look out!”
