KOBRA KAI – KOBRA KAI

KOBRA KAI – KOBRA KAI

Local live-electronica collective Kobra Kai release their debut album and it’s a cracker. Their self titled debut is crammed full of drum & bass, hip hop and dubstep numbers that are all dedicated dancefloor destroyers. Kobra Kai have been doing the rounds on the Sydney electronic scene for a number of years with a number of different member configurations but the core of the group- keyboardist Rehan Panditaratne and drummer Andrew Hutchinson- have maintained the sound of the group and lie at the heart of their energetic live shows, augmented by three full-time emcees. The album sweeps through a variety of dance genres and is most notably reminiscent of the underground sounds of the UK. The album kicks off with the brooding yet ominous Rollerball in the vein of early Pendulum, while Equinox seems more influenced by Shapeshifter and High Constrast. Your Problem is a heavy dubstep bomb, Kinetic is a subtle head-nod inducing number while the album’s penultimate track Breathless will leave you, well, breathless. If you’re looking for an album to break a sweat to, you can’t go any farther than this.
