KIRSTY AKERS – NAKED
At 22 most recording artists are considered new comers, but Kirsty Akers has been around since she was 16. Naked is her 3rd Album. With a plethora of Country Music Awards and accolades under her belt she is getting noticed by fans and people in the industry alike. The third track In Spite Of Ourselves is a duet with Bob Evans, ARIA winner most known for his work with West Australian band Jebediah. It’s a cheeky tale of an oddball couple that take each other for what they are. Unfortunately it seems that they believe that if you are going to sing country music, you have to sing with an American twang. It would be impossible to think by listening to this alone that Kirsty is Australian. While the musicians and the recording qualities are of the highest order, the album lets itself down in it’s predictablity, it is a paint by numbers album to fit the snuggly into the country genre and targeted at the lucrative US market. Many people believe that country music is the definition of white people ruining the blues, Kirsty Akers is helping them make their case.
