Kings Cross Festival launched

Maeve O’Meara, host of the SBS series Food Safari, joined with sponsors Hardy’s wines last week to launch this year’s Food, Wine and Arts Festival in Kings Cross.

The packed crowd in The Sugarmill Hotel enjoyed tango and ballroom dancers, gorgeous regional and varietal wines, a focus on good food and a dance competition. All of the above plus live acts, dancing in the streets and much more would make the ’09 festival one to remember, said Adrian Bartels, president of the Potts Point and Kings Cross Partnership which is organising the event.

The festival, set for Sunday 3 May, will be held as usual in Fitzroy Gardens in the Cross, but this year will also combine with the Kings Cross Arts Guild who will present The ‘Sinners and Swingers Ball’ the night before at Club Swans, starring a phalanx of Sydney’s swinging musical talent. There will also be a photographic competition and exhibition ‘ Images of The Cross ‘ with portraiture and landscape divisions each with $1,000 first prize.
