JULIA & THE DEEP SEA SIRENS

JULIA & THE DEEP SEA SIRENS

Family Pets is the highly anticipated sophomore album of Canberra-based folk outfit, Julia and the Deep Sea Sirens.

Featuring gorgeous tracks like Little Surprises and Adeleine, Julia says for the large part of the album, she’s played the cards close to her heart.

“I figure the best way to stay original is just to write from what you know about. The more honest I can be in my song writing, the more unique it’s likely to be, hopefully.”

Unlike their first album, Julia says Family Pets was a much more “deliberate” process.

“I ended up sitting in the producer’s seat and having a really strong vision of what the album could sound like and what sort of songs would sound like.”

Touring around the country at the end of February, the band have handpicked some interesting venues to play, one of them Marrickville’s The Newsagency.

“Gigs are always special there. I love performing in intimate little spots like that where you can see everyone in the crowd and they can see you really easily.”

Feb 22, The Newsagency, 375 Enmore Rd, Marrickville, $10, 8095 0246, facebook.com/thenewsagencyenmore
