John McInerney braves the crowd

Councillor John McInerney spoke at the Fitzroy Gardens rally on behalf of Clover Moore, braving a hostile crowd.

He emphasised Council had not yet decided on the outcome for Fitzroy Gardens and the current plans were a draft version only.

Staff will be briefing Councillors on the project this week so Council will make a decision before the end of the year.

In response to questions he promised another public meeting would be held at which people could vote, and that Council would re-open submissions (because he had been advised Council took little notice of petitions).

Cr McInerney later endorsed the staff position that only four trees would go from the Gardens, according to Liberal candidate Adrian Bartels, who spoke to him.
