Jingo bells!

Jingo bells!

Miracle on Macquarie Street turns a traditional Christmas tale into an hilarious political satire. The pantomime, written by Michael Koziol, Cam Smith, Annie Wylie, Sarah Ison and directed by Michael Koziol, will attempt the near impossible – to make the last two years of Australian politics even more absurd and funny.

The title references a classic film (Miracle on 34th Street) which tells the heart-warming story of a department store Santa who turns out to be the real Kris Kringle. Miracle on Macquarie Street bases its characters and narrative on unholy shenanigans and un-saintly political figures, so it isn’t likely to warm any hearts but it may give you a good belly-laugh.

It’s Christmas time in New York, and the new Santa in Macy’s department store is a dubious Australian – former deputy premier, John Barilaro. The job was on his wish list but there is opposition to his having been gifted it. In the end, he may not even get to sit in his big red chair because Scott Morrison has already secretly appointed himself dual Santa of Macy’s.

Meanwhile, as chestnuts roast over an open fire, or rather, prawns grill on a Weber barbecue, there may be romance as well as smoke in the air for erstwhile lovers, Gladys Berejiklian and Daryl Maguire.

This is pantomime which means you can jeer, boo, hiss, howl and guffaw at the antics of the ghosts of political figures past.

Featuring Hannah Belnick, Harry Black, Soleo Gooudswaard, Samantha Hutchinson, Michael Koziol, Richard Muz, Emily Ritchie, Annie Wylie, house band, Elon Musk and the Blue Ticks.

Writer, Michael Koziol is the Sydney Editor of the Sydney Morning Herald, former deputy editor of The Sun-Herald and a federal political reporter in Canberra, so he has the tea on political goings-on.

This is a fun way to kick off the silly season.
