JEREMY HARRISON – TWO BY TWO
In his first solo LP, Jeremy Harrison plays with simple melodies and expansive instrumentation to create an earnestness that echoes. Harrison’s near-tremolo vocals are the vessel for this sincerity, which is felt especially in Better Place, a song that commands the listener’s attention with a beautiful, unified string-only opening. The violins fade out as the vocals and guitars spring to the fore. Two By Two’s lyrics appeal to listeners via a commonness apparent in the folk ballad, Single Drop: “Don’t you get caught in the rush, searching for one single drop”.
The Sydney-based singer/songwriter studiously tinkered away on this debut album and created a touching and commendable folk record. (KD)
