This is another new entry on Eat Street, set to put Chatswood back on the map as a dining destination. Inside it’s quite organic, with a waterwheel muting the intensity of pin spot lighting, and a cleverly constructed wooden feature wall. Al fresco dining is also available, though it lacks the warmth and authenticity of the inside space. On the waitress’ recommendation we tried the Bishonen Sake ($9/glass, $18/bottle) served hot, which was enjoyable but not one I’d rush back for. A Sour Apple Soju ($6.50) proved quite fortuitous. It’s a Korean distilled alcoholic beverage, similar (but a bit sweeter) than vodka. The sour apple flavour cuts against the sweetness a little, but it was just the ticket to dull the fire in my mouth after I ate the super spicy Cheese Chilli Chicken Teppan ($22). The small red chillies were brutal, even to a confirmed chilli addict! They were also in the bubbling pot of Beef Spare Rib Hot Pot ($19.80) but fewer numbers meant I was able to enjoy the substantial serve of tender beef short ribs marinated in fruit, and complemented beautifully by a broth that was both savoury and sweet. Being the only Anglo diners made us feel very adventurous!
