INSIDIOUS

INSIDIOUS

It’s no comedy, but this horror film by the creators of Saw has moments of hilarity. Highschool teacher Josh (Patrick Wilson) and his musician wife Renai (Rose Byrne) find themselves in danger when their son is strangely comatosed after falling in the attic. They blame the house. It’s classic Poltergiest real-estate, lots of winding stairs, dark hallways and of course, that attic. But when they move – into a light, airy bungalow worthy of Wysteria Lane, they find their ghosts have too. Josh keeps his face in a permanent state of jaw-locked skepticism to Renai’s petrified motherly fears. Then things get comical when neighbourhood ghostbusters arrive, played by Aussies Leigh Whannell (who is actually the writer) and buddy Angus Sampson. They get to work with their gasmasks and home-made UV detectors. I heard more laughs than screams. (AH) *1/2
