Inner-city prejudice: Hillsong’s frosty welcome

The local opposition to Hillsong’s bid to build a super-church in Rosebery was nothing compared to the vehement response from residents in Camden who opposed plans to build an Islamic school, Professor Kevin Dunn says.
?The magnitudes of the two developments are completely different,? he said.
Professor Dunn did concede that fringe Christian groups like Hillsong are sometimes treated with suspicion in the broader community.
?Hillsong is not perceived as mainstream Christian,? he said. ?And so it is likely that there is some degree of intolerance and fear with regards to them. So I would agree with the proposition that some Christian groups are likely to face more intolerance than others.?
