I GIVE IT A YEAR

I Give It a Year is not your typical rom-com. It follows the marriage of Nat (Rose Byrne) and Josh (Rafe Spall), who from the outset make an unlikely couple. Nat is the professional, perfect Stepford wife while Josh is a struggling writer who experiences writer’s block more often than he doesn’t. The film follows the two as they traverse what is universally known as the most difficult part of marriage – the first year.

The relationship becomes hard to sustain with the appearance of good-looking clients and ex-lovers weaving their way in and out of Nat and Josh’s lives. Clichés are kept to a minimum and Stephen Merchant steals the show with his comedic timing. Wildly inappropriate, it’s packed with cringe-worthy hilarity. (SY) ***1/2
