HOME BASE ALL STARS

Heaps Decent have gone from strength to strength. From a series of workshops run in the remote communities Maningrida and the Riverina Juvenile Justice centre in 2007 to a corporate-sponsored (but still community-minded) public company with a SMAC Award under its belt and many more successful projects to boot (Detours & Destinations; Big Up Program), the initiative started by DJ Levins and Nina Las Vegas certainly lives up to its name.

Home Base is the latest venture; a weekly workshop held at the Redfern Community Centre which encourages disadvantaged youth to drop-in and work on their beat-making, rapping and production skills with the Heaps Decent team of volunteer professionals. What they may lack in opportunities they more than make up for with enthusiasm and talent, and this Sunday is a chance to see some of the results in action. Then you can say: you saw it there first.
