HOLY MOTORS

HOLY MOTORS

Some might label it ‘experimental’ or ‘avant-garde’, but if you’re not one to waste copious amounts of time pretentiously creating metaphors and meaning out of nothing in a faux-British accent, the only appropriate word you will use to describe this film is ‘crap’. A bearded half-beast devouring flowers from a cemetery, a model silently being carried into a sewer and placed in a burqa, a man seemingly immune to death despite being stabbed and shot several times, a family of chimps and talking cars all sound outlandish, but despite its irritating illusive ‘high culture’ feel, this film is completely lacking in intellectual substance. It’s as if writer/director Leos Carax had some sort of monotonous nightmare one day, splashed his vague memories onto paper and hoped the audience would create their own plot and call it art. **
