HOLY GHOST! – HOLY GHOST!

HOLY GHOST! – HOLY GHOST!

This album is totally pleasant and will really fizz your mind, man. It will make doing the dishes feel like vacuuming the carpet; it will make strolling through a designated trees and grass area feel like a walk in the park. With that dulcet, wet tea towel, producer-deciding-to-be-the-singer sound that Cut Copy mastered so well, Holy Ghost! bring in their self titled debut with the underwhelming Do It Again, which greets you sounding like it could be the Men Without Hats 80s classic Safety Dance and leaves you wishing it was. The softly disco Wait and See gives us this little mind-bending chorus gem: “when you promised to be honest with me, were you being honest, tell me honestly…”. Feel free to take five to digest that before continuing. The most interesting moment comes with the last track Some Children which lets go of the not too rough, but not too soft synth bass that makes the rest of the album such a blur and entertains the idea of having some actual space and groove. While fine on paper, this debut by the New York duo is a fine example of two perfectly adept producers who know exactly what they’re doing but are taking no risks whatsoever in getting it done.
