HOLLY THROSBY – TEAM

HOLLY THROSBY – TEAM

There is no “I” in team, nor is there an “H”, thankfully there is a resounding “T” for Team Throsby. Perhaps as recognition of the amount of work put in by the many on an album credited to the one, Holly Throsby has named her latest release as a thank you to those people. And a credit to all Team is. Following up her album for the kiddies – See! – this releases see s more assured Ms Throsby. Retiring to country NSW and a 19th century church to record with long-time collaborator Tony Dupe, Throsby has caste aside some of the doubts that have marked her blossoming career to date. The opening What I Thought of You is a gentle introduction to the album and is classic Throsby – multi-tracked, husky-whispered vocals and gentle building strum that doesn’t release until its final moments. But what follows shows a more nuanced Throsby. Perhaps it is the surrounds, for Team shows a broader perspective. In the country one can see for miles, look out over distant hills, watch storms approach and pass by. In the city one is crowded-in, only concerned with what is immediately overhead. Throsby, one feels, by nature will never be an arrogant or overly-assured woman, but on Team she expresses a greater comfort in her own skin that she translates into a beautifully constructed set of ten songs – along with her “team”. “Here is the team I’ve got / Here is my co-pilot…I know we could be good, be good / And I surely would” – certainly stands as her most definitive statement yet.
