HOLA MEXICO FILM FESTIVAL

HOLA MEXICO FILM FESTIVAL

The Hola Mexico Film Festival started out rather inauspiciously as a Master’s assignment in Events Management for Samuel Douek. Now in its seventh year and spanning the Pacific to sunny LA, Director Douek says it has become the, “Sundance of Mexican Film in the USA.”

Hola Mexico screens a range of genres from thrillers to documentaries with all 15 films of the boutique festival being highlights, says Douek.

“I want people to be entertained and be part of the magic of movies. I want them to enjoy watching something that … they won’t see anywhere else.”

The festival will open with Mariachi Gringo (pictured), a comedy about running away to Mexico to become a mariachi singer, but hits some serious notes with documentaries such as De Panzazo, a film that brought about changes in the Mexican government’s policy. (TP)
