History lives at the Arts Ball

A full-house crowd had a ball dancing to the David Levy quintet at the Sinners and Swingers arts ball held by the Kings Cross Arts Guild at Club Swans on Saturday night. The event celebrated the long history of music at the Cross, with Festival Records founder Les Welch as guest of honour. Les, who has sold over 10 million records, played a guest spot with the band, his boogie woogie numbers getting the room jumping. Pictures from 1945 of his band playing nearby on Darlinghurst Road for the Sydney End-of-War concert were projected as a backdrop.
