Heritage restoration recognised by National Trust

Australia?s most sustainable state heritage-listed building and largest heritage mural have won National Trust Awards for the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority.
The awards recognise industry and community leaders in heritage management.
The Authority won the prestigious EnergyAustralia Award for Conservation-Energy Management for its restoration of the former Bushells warehouse at 88 George Street.
In presenting the award, the National Trust recognised the 5-Star Green Star-rated development as Australia?s most sustainable heritage-listed building. The restoration sets a new benchmark for the adaptive re-use and environmental sustainability of heritage buildings across the country.
The Authority also won the National Trust?s Interpretation and Presentation Award for its interpretation strategy and installations in The Rocks, which bring the history of the area to life for visitors. The work includes a video about the wooden streets of colonial Sydney and a heritage mural recreated from an original 1901 photograph, which is the largest of its kind in Australia.
A second mural has recently been painted on a Cahill Expressway wall that splits Sydney into its modern and historic parts. Located on Gloucester Street, the black and white mural shows the stark contrast between the CBD today and the people and places of Australia?s first European settlement.
