Cruising with compromise

A tentative agreement between state and local government bodies has been reached on the matter of a heritage fleet’s docking area.

The  Lord Mayor, Clover Moore and NSW Minister for Planning and Infrastructure, Brad Hazzard have stated they work together on finding a docking site for the Sydney Heritage Fleet and the Pyrmont Heritage Boating Club.

In NSW parliament last week, Ms Moore asked Mr Hazzard whether he will look into alternate docking sites, in particular Cockatoo Island or Goat Island.

The planning minister said he was aware of the issue and proposed collaboration.

Ms Moore said: “Residents are concerned about a proposal for the Heritage Fleet to be relocated on 1 Bank St, right besides some quite dense residential development.”

“In fact the usage is not just a museum usage but actually a boat building industrial usage and residents hope that that could be based at either Cockatoo Island or Goat Island.”

Playing for keeps

Leichhardt residents spoke up about upgrading Spindler’s Playground in a consultation meeting held by the Leichhardt Council last Saturday.

With $60,000  for the project, the Council announced plans of upgrading existing playground equipment and installing additional equipment, such as swings accessible to the disabled and rubber ground padding. Picnic tables and benches were also suggested. Road safety measures for children such as additional traffic signs for alerting motorists on Taylors St and facilities will be installed.

The Council will reconvene in four to six weeks with substantive proposals for the upgrade.
