Here comes the Big Gay Weekend

This weekend will see Oxford St light up for the Big Gay Weekend, with a variety of parties, activities and events planned to raise funds for the NSW Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby.

In preparation for the event running from Thursday to Sunday, Taylor Square’s T2 building has been redecorated by a new mural commissioned by the City of Sydney.

The weekend is highlighted by Klub Kiki, the official Scissor Sisters after-party at Oxford Art Factory on Saturday night, and Big Gay Friday, where you can purchase a $10 wristband for entry into all participating venues along Oxford St.

“Big Gay Weekend is a chance for our whole community to come together in aid of a good cause,” said Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi
Gras CEO, Michael Rolik. “Big Gay Friday was a blast last year, and we hope to see everyone out in full force again, supporting their favourite
community venues.”

The Big Gay Weekend encourages the Shop Local promotion, supporting local businesses along Oxford Street and the surrounding areas. Parties for the weekend include the Glitter Ball at the Metro on Saturday, We Love Saturday at the Oxford Hotel, and Diva Fever on Sunday at the Beresford in Surry Hills. Apollo also runs on Sunday afternoon.

“We Love Saturday will be the icing on the Big Gay Weekend cake, with a packed line-up of top-tier DJs and performers across all four levels of the Oxford on Saturday night. This one-off fundraising bash will feature a who’s who of Sydney’s favourite DJs, as well as spectacular shows,” said Mr Rolik.

“Big Gay Weekend is also the chance to share your ideas about Sydney Mardi Gras 2013. We will be holding the Parade Big Ideas Day once again.”

The event will also raise funds for the Sydney Mardi Gras Parade Community Grants Scheme, Queer Screen and Harbour City Bears, among others.
