HEARTBREAKER

This has got ‘Hollywood remake’ written all over it. Like French films L.O.L and La Cage aux Folles (The Birdcage) before it, Heartbreaker is a droll and peppy slice of not much at all that nonetheless goes down a treat.  Professional Romeo Alex Lippi (Romain Duris) makes his crust breaking hearts, but meets his match in stunning ice-queen Juliette (Vanessa Paradis). Only hitch is she’s about to get hitched to a dreary dreamboat. Oh, and the fact that Alex’s actually been hired to con her using his manly charms and a bucket-load of lies. You can probably guess the rest – but the predictability does not spoil the fun. (AB) ***
