Good Things Festival Accused Of Ignoring Sexual Assault
Organisers of emo punk music festival have been accused of ignoring attendants allegations of mass sexual harassment and assault as it toured Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane over the weekend.
Dozens of attendees took to social media after the festival with allegations that they had been subject to, or witnessed, sexual violence.
Advocacy group What Were You Wearing collated peoples’ experiences in posts to Instagram and TikTok, and included incidents of groping, upskirting, and non-consensual filming.
“People were getting needle pricked in Brisbane, guys were filming up girls [sic] skirts in Korn in Sydney,” wrote one attendee in the comment section of a TikTok about the allegations.
“Was the dude that was assaulting women kicked out?? My ribs are still killing me,” said another.
Festival condemned by advocacy group
What Were You Wearing also shared a statement claiming that those speaking out had been blocked, or had their comments deleted by the Good Things Instagram account.
“In addition to this, once they [Good Things Festival] became aware of these incidents, they left a comment about what patrons should do, rather than a detailed post.”
In a comment that has since been deleted, Good Things said that the claims were being taken very seriously.
“Until very recently, Good Things Festival were unaware of any reported sexual misconduct.”
“Good Things Festival takes all reports of sexual assault and harassment extremely seriously. The safety and well-being of our patrons is our top priority.”
