The Navy is opening the gangways on four of its ships and inviting the public aboard as part of the Royal Australian Navy Open Day at HMAS Kuttabul in Potts Point on September 28.
Visitors will be able to tour the frigate HMAS Newcastle, the amphibious transport vessel HMAS Manoora, the mine hunter HMAS Diamantina and the Armidale Class patrol boat HMAS Maryborough.
Kuttabul’s commanding officer Bryan Parker says Seahawk and Augusta helicopters will conduct winching displays from Sydney Harbour.
“Our Navy Open Day is always a great day out for the family and gives everyone a first-hand look at what it’s like to live on a warship,” Mr Parker said.
“The RAN band and Australia’s Federation Guard will perform and recruitment officers will also be available to talk to anyone considering a career in the Navy.”
Visitors will also be able to visit the RAN Heritage Centre, where the conning tower of a World War II Japanese midget submarine is on display and view Sydney Harbour through an attack submarine periscope from inside the centre.
? The Navy Open Day will run from 10am ? 4pm and is free
