Glebe bomb threat clears building

It was a hoax but workers still had to evacuate and police still had to search a building near the Broadway Shopping Centre for a bomb which could have exploded at any time.

Leichhardt Police report:

“At 3.45pm Thursday the 28th May 2009 an anonymous caller informed staff in an office in Franklyn Street Glebe, that there was a bomb on the premises.

“The owner of the company evacuated all staff from the building and they gathered in the nearby park. Police from Leichhardt LAC were called and attended.

“Franklyn Street was closed off to vehicular and pedestrian traffic and police conducted a search of the building. No unusual or suspicious items were located and police deemed the premises secure. At 4.35pm Franklyn Street was opened to all traffic. The operation resulted in only minor traffic delays to residential persons of Franklyn Street. Staff members have been interviewed by police and the reason for the threat is not known.”
