GIG: TUJIKO NORIKO

GIG: TUJIKO NORIKO

PREVIEW BY AMELIA GROOM

Building dense worlds with layers and layers of treated keyboards, this Japanese queen of divergent digital pop cuts a fine path through delicate melodies and devolving rhythms.

Having never played an instrument until she randomly picked up her boyfriend’s synthesiser, Tujiko Noriko has carved a uniquely spliced vision of experimental-electro-pop music.

A prolific artist who has recorded 13 albums in the last eight years, her soundscapes often consists of repetitive layers of samples, electronic beats and melodies gradually added on top of each other, with her lyrics sung in both Japanese and English.

Noriko will be performing for one night only at The Studio, presented by Uber Lingua – a Melbourne-based group of DJs, video artists and musicians who celebrate and promote contemporary and diverse multi-lingual music and culture.

Her first visit to Australia in four years, she will be supported by Stuart Buchanan from FBi radio’s Fat Planet on decks. For more information see www.tujikonoriko.com or www.uberlingua.com
