GIG: TRIPOD

PREVIEW BY SUNDAY FRANCIS-REISS

‘We really like Christmas songs,’ says Yon of the band Tripod, who are about to perform a Christmas-themed show as part of the Gorgeous program at The Famous Spiegeltent.

For The Love Of God! The 2008 Christmas Tour is a celebration that mixes tradition and irreverence. ‘It’s a collection of songs accumulated over the years,’ explains Yon. ‘Each year we write a few songs and we’ve ended up with a show’s worth.’

Yon contributes vocals, trumpet, flute, harmonica and miscellaneous instruments to the group. He says that the show will largely consist of their own comic-melodic tunes, but will also include a few Christmas classics, and mentions Oh Holy Night and Shayne McGowan’s Fairy Tale of New York as particular favourites.

Tripod are happy to be starting their tour in the Spiegeltent, which they occasionally cross touring paths with, and they’re excited to be celebrating Christmas in the heart of Sydney, outside the Opera House. ‘There’s really nowhere better than that concourse at night,’ says Yon.
