GIG: SYNERGY PERCUSSION WITH FRITZ HAUSER

It’s an unusual collision of ideas. Percussion, the art of Swiss composer and painter Peter Mieg, all in Newington Chapel, Stanmore. But if there’s anyone up to the challenge it’s Fritz Hauser, a man declared to be, “one of the greatest drummers alive” by the New York Times.  In tandem with local group Synergy, he will explore Mieg’s, “intense use of colour, the almost naïve but ritualistic approach to painting itself, about detail and form, about gesture and the flowing of colour” using tubular bells, cymbals, bass drum, hihat, woodblocks and multiple small sound objects. Hauser says the Chapel was ideal for a night channelling the artist’s, “freshness, directness and energetic honesty” as, “silence and listening are integral parts” to the space. Stilllifes promises to bring together art, gesture, movement and music in probably one of the most creative marriages to be witnessed within Chapel walls.
