GIG: SLAVA & LEONARD GRIGORYAN

GIG: SLAVA & LEONARD GRIGORYAN

It’s easy to imagine, listening to the Grigoryan Brothers’ album Distance, that some kind of magnificent four armed musical alien is behind the eclectic mix of songs. Perhaps it is the 20 years of playing together (since younger brother Leonard was four years old) that has led to the brothers’ incredible synchronicity. Perhaps it’s their broad aural tastes. Whatever the reason, if you fancy yourself a bit handy with axe, these lads will almost certainly put you to shame. Blending classical, jazz and contemporary guitar, the Grigoryan Brothers have appeared at festivals, with orchestras and with other guitar giants from around the world. Widely regarded as Australia’s finest classical guitar duo, the brothers have devoted themselves to endlessly expanding their repertoire through new arrangements, their own compositions and commissioned material. Add to this their passion for improvisation and close onstage dynamic, and you have a live act that’s almost too good to be true.
