GIG REVIEW – EMMA LOUISE: May 17 at The Metro, Sydney

Emma Louise has been described as belonging to that category of female performers whose vocal strength and powerful presence on stage defies her apparent vulnerability. True: Louise is incredibly small, and yet stepping on stage it soon becomes very clear that this artist’s talent is nothing short of a storm. At 21, Emma Louise has already toured with some of the biggest Australian names, such as Missy Higgins, Josh Pyke and Gurrumul. It is not surprising, this young, Queensland- born artist has an air of professionalism and musical maturity that is mesmerising. Performing from her debut album, VS Head VS Heart, in itself genre-defying and refreshing, Louise uses the stage, backed by a fantastic band, to continue experimenting musically.

After releasing an award-winning independent album, Full Hearts and Empty Rooms, whose hit single Boy conquered Triple J charts, Emma Louise’s album VS Head VS Heart is sure to surpass expectations. (HP)
