GIG: MY BRIGHTEST DIAMOND

“Dressing up like Gaga would be delightful – I would do that any day! Well, maybe not the gold Egyptian bikini…” Shara Worden, otherwise known as My Brightest Diamond, is one fine lady. Her music has the integrity of a classical sonata but the listening ease and appeal of three minute pop song. It’s also caught the ear of Laurie Anderson and Lou Reed who have invited her to perform as part of Vivid Sydney. “I’d worked with Laurie two years ago and just really enjoyed working with her so I was really honoured that I was invited.” Worden is being very modest. Not only has she collaborated with Anderson but she’s also a member of Sufjan Stevens’ The Illinoisemakers, instrumental-experimental group Clogs, has recorded with The Decemberists and just recently performed in a tribute to Nico after an invitation from John Cale. That’s not surprising as her musical versatility frees her from the boundaries of categorisation, “I jump around … in and out of styles so much, I don’t really think about those boundaries.” She’ll be performing original material by My Brightest Diamond – all composed and arranged by Worden who says she’s very excited and also very pregnant. I doubt we’ll see any Gaga-inspired costumes but rather a vibrant and glowing Shara Worden.
