GIG: LIOR

BY NATALIE SALVO

The Famous Spiegeltent is a grand, 1920s pavilion boasting an ornate bar, glorious chandelier and the spirit of every performer that has ever tread its boards. Lior Attar, the Israel-born and Melbourne-based singer-songwriter will perform his self-described ‘epic folk’ music in his show, Strings Attached, at the majestic venue in November.

‘I was initially invited to do some intimate shows in Melbourne back in 2006. They were some of the most memorable shows I have done and I’ve been hooked on the beauty and intimacy of the Spiegeltent since,’ says Lior.

With the help of a string quartet, the shows will include a mix of rich arrangements and stripped-back acoustic songs based on his first two albums, Autumn Flow and Corner Of An Endless Road. Jessica Chapnik ‘ the voice behind The Square soundtrack ‘ will also join Lior for a duet.

The set list is mostly impromptu, as the crowd will help guide the song choices. Some potential tracks include a Nick Drake cover or one of Lior’s compositions from when he was 16 years old titled, The Other Side. The shows are set to be special ones, as Lior describes, ‘I’m really excited about this kind of ‘raw richness’ that this format is presenting.’
