Gamers help out the homeless

Every Saturday at the Kings Cross Farmers and Food markets, one corner of Fitzroy Gardens is reserved for people who kick back and enjoy the morning with board games such as Chess, Connect 4, Dominoes, Backgammon and more.

Each player makes a gold coin donation to the non-profit venture, brainchild of Christian Carter with assistance from the City of Sydney and the Potts Point and Kings Cross Partnership.

The gold coins add up, and last Saturday Mr Carter and fellow organiser Ted Swab handed over a cheque for $1,500 for local homeless charities the Wayside Chapel, St Canice’s Church and St John’s Rough Edges centre.

“A good life is one that has room not just for all that comes with hard work, but one that has made time for play, rest, learning, community and health. To provide games in our local park is a major contribution toward the goodness and health of the community,” Wayside Chapel’s Pastor Graham Long said.

To join the fun, just turn up from 10am Saturdays in the park near the fountain or visit gardengames.com.au.
