Freedom In The Air Tonight – REVIEW
On Tuesday, April 4, the Factory Theatre held an unforgettable music experience, showcasing the best of ‘80s legends, Phil Collins, Bruce Springsteen and George Michael.
The crowd experienced two articulate sets featuring the biggest hits from these three iconic artists. A fantastic ensemble of musicians, led by the incredible Ric Herbert, Ally Friendship and Brett Sams, and backed by a talented five piece band, helped recreate the awesome sounds of Collins, Springsteen and Michael.
The first set included a mix of songs from all three artists. Ally Friendship did a great job covering verses originally performed by Aretha Franklin (with George Micheal) as well as taking on the upper end of Phil Collins’ vocal range.
The second set, dedicated purely to Phil Collins, presented some of the best tunes in his catalogue. Most songs were performed true to the original style, but one special number, “You’ll Be In My Heart”, was given a unique treatment by Brett Sams and Ally Friendships. The song opened with a magical duet by the two singers accompanied by acoustic guitar before it broke out into Collins original version.
The show was immersive, with the incredibly talented performers and an enthusiastic audience united in their love of the enduring music of Collins, Springsteen and Michael.
